Dr. Mohammad Ali Ansari a distinguished exegete of the Holy Qur’an and a progressive commentator on Nahj al-Balāgha, was born in 1964 in the blessed city of Mashhad.
With a deep passion for attaining divine truths and spiritual knowledge, he began his seminary studies at the Mashhad Islamic Seminary while still in secondary school. In the core subjects of the seminary, he studied under great scholars such as Seyyed Hassan Salehi, Seyyed Ebrahim Hejazi Tabassi, and Grand Ayatollah Mirza Ali-Agha Falsafi.
Over the years, he also pursued academic studies in Persian literature and graduated at advanced levels in this field. He has additionally conducted significant formal and informal research in several other academic disciplines. However, the turning point of his life was his introduction to the noble scholar, esteemed jurist, eminent exegete, and exemplar of practical ethics, Ayatollah Mohammad-Sadeq Saeedi Kashmeri. A profound bond developed between this devoted student and that revered master, and over thirteen years, he benefited greatly from the teachings of the late Allamah in jurisprudence, principles of jurisprudence, Qur’an exegesis, ethics, and other scholarly fields.

Analyzing the Signs of Reappearance (Section five)
▶
Description
In this fifth session of the series on the signs preceding the reappearance of Imam Mahdi, Professor Ansari turns to a highly important methodological issue: the danger of misapplying prophetic signs to historical events and contemporary figures. The lecture begins by explaining how, throughout history, certain individuals and movements were wrongly identified as figures such as Sufyani or Nafs al-Zakiyyah, and how political groups sometimes used end-times narrations to legitimize themselves. Professor Ansari argues that many of these historical “matchings” were forced and unreliable, because the full set of narrated conditions had not actually been fulfilled. He then addresses several widely circulated assumptions surrounding the signs of reappearance, including the idea of “Sayyid Khorasani,” and stresses the need to distinguish authentic reports from popular but weak or fabricated additions. In the second half of the lecture, the discussion broadens from specific signs to the social and moral transformations described in the narrations of the Prophet and the Infallibles. Drawing especially on a narration from Imam al-Sadiq, Professor Ansari outlines a portrait of the end-times marked by the spread of injustice, corruption, distortion of truth, weakening of faith, social inversion of values, and the isolation of sincere believers. The central message of this session is not speculation, but responsibility. These narrations are presented as a call to awareness, patience, moral vigilance, and spiritual steadfastness in times of widespread confusion and decline.

Analyzing the Signs of Reappearance (Section four)
▶
Description
In this fourth session of the lecture series on the signs preceding the reappearance of Imam Mahdi, Professor Ansari continues the discussion by examining two major topics: the Khasf of Bayda and the Yamani, before addressing a common public misconception about the Dajjal. The lecture first explains the meaning of Khasf, referring to the swallowing or sinking of land, and identifies Bayda as the region between Medina and Mecca where, according to the narrations, the army of Sufyani will be swallowed by the earth. Professor Ansari presents this event as one of the most firmly established and repeated signs in the narrations, closely connected to the final phase before the reappearance. The session then turns to the Yamani, traditionally counted among the five well-known signs. Here, the lecture takes a careful source-based approach, distinguishing between what is commonly repeated and what is more strongly supported by the chains of transmission. While the Yamani is widely mentioned among the major signs, Professor Ansari explains that the evidence for classifying it as an absolutely definite sign is more complex and deserves scholarly caution. In the final section, the lecture addresses the topic of the Dajjal. Rather than treating it as one of the direct signs of Imam Mahdi’s reappearance in Shi‘i sources, Professor Ansari argues that the Dajjal is more closely connected with broader end-times discourse and the signs of the Day of Judgment. He also explores the possibility that the Dajjal may be understood symbolically—as a movement, ideology, or organized current of falsehood and oppression—rather than only as a single individual. This session is especially valuable for viewers seeking a more precise and text-based understanding of Islamic eschatology, away from oversimplified or popular assumptions

Analyzing the Signs of Reappearance (Section three) SOFYANI
▶
Description
In the third session of this profound lecture series, Professor Ansari delves into one of the most pivotal and frequently mentioned signs of Imam Mahdi’s reappearance: the Sufyani. Building on the framework of the five inevitable signs introduced in previous sessions, this lecture explores: The Sufyani’s Identity Lineage traced to Abu Sufyan and Hind (mother of Muawiya). Physical and moral characteristics: red-faced, fair-skinned, blue-eyed, and described as “sated with blood.” Emergence from Sham (Damascus), a recurring theme in both Shia and Sunni narrations. Narrative Comparisons Differences between Shia and Sunni accounts of the Sufyani’s rise, including: Conflicting reports on his name (e.g., Anbast ibn Abu Sufyan vs. Abdullah ibn Yazid). Variations in timelines (e.g., ruling for 9 months vs. 6–18 months). Shia emphasis on the ideological nature of the Sufyani—a movement rooted in Umayyad thought and opposition to Ahl al-Bayt. This session underscores the ideological and historical significance of the Sufyani, framing him not merely as an individual but as a systemic challenge to the Mahdi’s mission. The lecture invites viewers to reflect on the enduring struggle between truth and tyranny and to adopt a source-based understanding of eschatological signs.

Analyzing the Signs of Reappearance (Section two)
▶
Description
In the second session of this three-night lecture series, Professor Ansari continues the discussion on the signs and indicators of the reappearance of Imam Mahdi. Building on the first session, this lecture revisits the foundational concepts introduced earlier. It emphasizes an essential principle in the study of this subject: the authentic signs of the reappearance must be understood through the narrations of the Infallibles. The session offers a structured continuation of the discussion for those interested in Mahdism, Islamic theology, and the study of end-time signs in Islamic sources. This lecture is especially valuable for viewers seeking a more careful, source-based understanding of the topic, away from speculation and unsupported claims.

Analyzing the Signs of Reappearance (Section one)
▶
Description
In this lecture, Professor Ansari explores one of the most important topics in Islamic eschatology: the signs and indicators of the reappearance of Imam Mahdi. This session introduces an eight-part framework for understanding the subject and examines key terms such as Qā’im, Mawla, and Uprising from a linguistic and theological perspective. It also discusses narrations attributed to Imam al-Baqir about celestial signs, including solar and lunar eclipses, as well as the meanings of words like Ayah and Alamah in Quranic usage. Whether you are studying Mahdism, Islamic terminology, or the concept of occultation and reappearance, this lecture provides a structured and scholarly introduction to the topic.
